Why hello beautiful! It’s me, attempting to mosey on into your lives after going deep for a few months. My excuses this time are quite intense; besides school, I’ve been dealing with some dark shit which I will open up about on a different post in the near future. Right now, I want to focus on some lighter stuff, like the recent updates to my home, etc.
One of the bigger projects we’ve undertaken recently (& by “we” I mean mostly my husband) involved ripping up carpet in both bedrooms upstairs & replacing them with Lifeproof flooring. The furniture in both rooms also got a major overhaul, including a huge dresser which up until now has been an eyesore… buuuut hubs had grown oddly attached to it. In the spirit of saving money, I decided to completely refurbish it and see if I could grow to love it, too.
I started out by sanding down all of the uneven spots where paint had chipped off. Once it was nice & smooth (& strange looking), I enlisted the help of Rustoleum Chalk Paint (in Linen White) & used special chalk paint brushes to cover the entire surface. On previous projects I used regular brushes, not knowing there were brushes specifically for chalk paint application & I definitely noticed the difference this time around. You don’t necessarily need to get them on Amazon either, Walmart has them too! After the paint dried, I coated the dresser with wax. This was a step I skipped on other chalk paint projects, but heard that it’s supposed to help maintain the paint & prevent chipping, so we shall see!
I decided to completely change out the knobs on each drawer, as well as the magnets on the inside of the doors in the middle (since they were useless anyway, as the doors would never stay closed). I replaced the silver knobs with these shiny diamond-ish like knobs, & immediately loved the difference they made (& also loved that they came in a 30 pack for $24, so I can use the leftovers on other projects!).
The inside of the drawers also needed to be fixed. I cleaned them out with wood cleaner, and then lined the bottoms using Nexus peel & stick flooring (in bianco marble) for a bit of structural integrity, using a utility knife to cut them to size. I used these before to line the bottom of our bathroom cabinet and they held up wonderfully (both to my delight & surprise, seeing as I had little faith in peel & stick tile prior).
I just replaced the magnets as of this posting and I have to wait 12 hours to test them out – but I’m already in love with the finished product, so I’ll post the after even with the doors hanging open!
It looks like a completely new piece of furniture; it’s amazing what a little paint & tlc can accomplish!
Talk to you soon, my loves! ❤️
