Hi babes! I started compiling a list of all the tricks I learned while working in sales & beyond, in efforts to provide you with some (hopefully) useful ways to save money. With rising prices on pretty much everything (most notably.. gas), I think we can all use all the help we can get to put some cash back in our wallets. This list will continue to grow as things come back to me, so check back again.. & if you have any money saving tips every broke bitch should know, let us know!

* If you went through your wardrobe this past winter & made a mental note to switch things up, maybe score some new warm clothing for winter 2022-23… NOW is your time!  Clothing retailers do a full mark down on all winter clothing come January-February. For the best selection, you should’ve started a month ago, but no worries – most places will still have an insane amount of stuff on clearance that you can browse through. Online retailers like Shein have major deals, & they’re going to be at the best prices right now. Shop & store away!

* With that being said – don’t ever buy winter clothing at the start of the season unless it’s something you absolutely cannot go without. It’s going to get marked down, so hold off if you can.

* Target always has an abundant clearance rack. They never disappoint.

* During the holidays, most retailers receive an influx of EVERYTHING. Their storage rooms are literally at capacity. While I hated the overload of backstock because it was largely disorganized & I never had time to get my shit together… this can benefit you as the shopper, because once the stock rooms get cleared out… there’s going to be brand new items & styles that were buried beneath everything else, that will now get placed on the rack, or marked down along with the rest of winter stock. YAY!

* Need to make a larger purchase but don’t have all the money upfront, & maybe the credit cards are maxed/don’t have great credit? (click here to read my post about ways to rebuild credit) There are apps that will allow you to make a purchase & pay it off over time without charging you interest! I’ve had a great experience Klarna, Afterpay, Sezzle, & Zip. Klarna allows you to make a payment every two weeks, Afterpay & Zip allow you to split your purchase in four payments. These apps came in clutch when I was planning the wedding & needed to buy stuff all at once!

* I was recently running through the racks at TJ Maxx & struck up conversation with two teenagers who were browsing nearby. One of them made a comment about not buying cosmetics from TJ’s or Marshalls, claiming the products weren’t “real”.
While you should always use your best judgement when purchasing products from ANYWHERE, even the brand’s direct sales channel… there is nothing to worry about when it comes to buying cosmetics/lotions/bathing products from TJ’s or Marshall’s!

I explained to the two lovely ladies how these products wind up on the discount rack… for example, Dove just recently marked down all of their body washes, so you’ll find them on clearance in CVS, Walmart, etc. This does not necessarily mean the product is bad or counterfeit. When companies rebrand, whether they’re upgrading their packaging or changing their product line… their older products will get moved to the sale rack to make room for all the new goodies.

A lot of the time, these brands will take the remaining product & sell it to places like TJ’s/Marshalls at discounted prices. Brands also will sell to TJ’s when there’s a misprint at the factory. Maybe their label was placed backwards, or was cut off, or information is missing… maybe the box was dropped & some of the bottles broke. The company can’t sell these at full price at this point, so off to TJ’s they go! Definitely inspect the packaging & make sure nothing is opened, but you should be safe to purchase & use whatever your heart desires.

* If you want a discount when shopping online – first, make sure you’re signed up for emails from said retailer, then browse the site. Add something to your cart & just leave it there. Chances are, the retailer will email you a discount code within 24 hours in an attempt to push you towards the checkout button!

* When you’re shopping for skincare products, & you see right next to the branded item you want, there’s a “store” brand version next to it at a significantly lower price… For example, some Olay & L’Oreal products will have an “Equate” version next to them at Walmart, & the label will say something like “compare to (name brand product)”. Compare the ingredients list. Majority of the time, they’re the SAME ingredients & will do the SAME thing… except you’ll pay significantly less for the store brand version.

* If you’re a bookworm, but of the broke bitch variety… this will be the favorite out of all the money saving tips
you’ll read today.  I discovered an amazing way to get access to a ton of major titles fo’ FREE.
First, sign up for a library card at the one closest to you. Then, download the Libby app. It’s essentially a virtual library right from your smart phone! There’s thousands of books, audiobooks, magazines.. & you can borrow them all for free & immediately upon download.

* If you’re looking to pick up canvas prints as a gift for someone…
1.) Definitely do it, I love canvas photos! Legit the perfect gift.
2.) Don’t ever purchase them at full price.

Canvas prints can run upwards of $60-$100, depending on where you’re purchasing them.
Download Groupon, & search for “canvas prints” in the little search bar up top. Hundreds of results should appear.
Find one that fits the size you’re looking for, & buy the Groupon for it before fulfilling at the website.
I’ve never paid more than $35 for two 16×20 prints, & that was WITH shipping.

Things you should always check your local thrift store for, first:

* Sporting equipment such as baseball bats, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, golf clubs, skis
snowboards, balls, helmets, etc. Whenever I visit the one closest to me, they’re always overloaded, they’re
always gently used if not brand new, & they’re always inexpensive.

* Furniture. Thrift stores surprisingly receive a lot of furniture that is brand new, or at least looks brand new.
All it needs is some disinfecting & it’s good to go!

* Picture frames & wall décor. You can find some interesting stuff in thrift stores
that you can guarantee no one else you know will have! & with the way I switch decor
around, this was one of my favorite money saving tips.

* If you’re comfortable enough – clothes & jewelry. I love digging through shit & seeing what
I can come up with. Not everyone likes doing that, but if you’re adventurous enough – it’s fun, &
I’ve found some really amazing pieces! Money saving tips that expand your wardrobe = ALL about it.

Things you should always buy at Dollar Tree
:

* Greeting cards. Cards are insanely priced these days & with the exception of myself, I’ve
never met anyone else who reads/keeps the card when they get it. When you
have so much in life to celebrate, $1.25 is easier on the wallet!

* Drinkware. Glass is glass, amiright? Why spend a ton of additional cash on it if you don’t have to?

* Hair accessories like ponytail holders, bobby pins, brushes, combs.
They work just as well as the ones I’ve bought from the regular retailers.

* Cotton balls/Q tips. They get the job done for cheaper.

* Mops, brooms, & cleaning supplies.
The majority of the cleaners carried at Dollar Tree are the same ones you’ll see anywhere else.

* Vases, vase filler, seasonal house décor. They have some really cute stuff for all seasons!

* Shipping supplies. Little known fact – Dollar Tree has envelopes
(both for letter & larger files), shipping tape, bubble wrap, & boxes.
When I was selling stuff on Ebay, Dollar Tree came in cluuutch.

* Party supplies like plastic cups, plates, decorations, & balloons. Save your money for the liquor store.
