Looking for cute yet cheap (meaning affordable, not looking) summer dresses? The maxi dress is the essential summer fashion piece for any season, but, it is especially fashionable during the summertime. And, it’s a choice that I personally love because it’s minimal effort, but chic af. Whenever an outfit is “minimal effort”, you can bet your ass that imma be all about it.

Why? Because sometimes life is hard, but style shouldn’t be.

Maxi dresses are also available at a ton of retailers with affordable price tags. I’ve included the links to some familiar places below, & maybe to some you don’t recognize. Check them out!

the essential patterned maxi
Aztec print maxi dress (Hot Kiss) purchased at Burlington for $12. For a bodycon style maxi like this one, click here.

Burlington is an option few know to utilize because many people don’t know they sell more than just coats – they sell EVERYTHING. From cosmetics & accessories to casual wear & formal dresses; you won’t walk out empty handed, I assure you. But, it’ll cost you less than if you went anywhere else! They have a TON of cheap summer dresses, too!

The bodycon maxi’s are flattering & despite their being floor length, they manage to keep you cool in the most sweltering summer temperatures.

the essential multi color maxi
This wrap front maxi didn’t have a tag on it (thrift store purchase) but this one is on the Amazon best seller list & has similar island vibe patterns!

The wrap front style dresses are form flattering for queens of all sizes, & they offer a little added ventilation for the girls when it’s hot out. I especially love this one – appropriate for a night out on the town or while vacationing on an island somewhere (hopefully all of us get to do that soon, after this pandemic is over!)

the essential two tone maxi
Crochet top maxi (Rue21) I love the two tone look! It almost looks like a top & skirt combo. This one also has the two tone look, AND the dress has pockets!

Sometimes I feel like I’m actually an old lady in a 31 year old body because I like crocheted ANYTHING, & I freely admit to watching reruns of The Golden Girls. I totally vibe with Sophia. But that’s a story for another time.

I love the crochet top to this dress. I especially like this two tone look because it almost makes it seem like you put the effort into a top & a skirt but really, it’s all one ensemble. Another reason why the maxi dress is an essential summer style – it’s not strenuous to slip one on.

the essential blue lace maxi
Bralette style maxi (Pink Lily, $58) for a cheaper, crocheted option, click here.

I love everything about this dress. It’s lacy looking at the top, yet tastefully covers the ladies. Flowy, yet form fitting. Casual enough to wear out for drinks, yet dressy enough for a wedding. Which is exactly what I wore this bad boi to.

Free People has the exact same dress (minor differences) but is over $100. Pink Lily has it for $58. I found a similar crocheted option which is actually beautiful on Amazon for $33. <-this is on my wish list.

Maxi season has begun, ladies! Tag me in your favorite looks 💋 for more summer fashion, click here.
