Precisely one month ago (April 19th) I wrote a blog post about how I was going to great lengths to meet my hair goals. I listed all the fab products I’m currently utilizing. I’m trying to increase the overall length of my hair. BUT, I also want to strengthen & fortify my lion’s mane as well (if you missed it, click here to catch up).

I used all the products from that same post for the past month. Skipped shampooing here & there, & definitely cut back on how often I blow my hair out/straighten it, I’ve been choosing instead to let my natural waves do their thing (which is usually a poofy, wavy mess, see picture below).

(Disclosure: this post contains affiliate links which loosely translated means I may make a small commission if you choose to purchase any of the products I recommend. This blog is 100% powered by its readers.)

my natural look during going to great lengths
This is somewhat contained, typically it’s more poofed out.

I added one more step into my regimen at the advice of one of my best friends (who is a phenomenal hair stylist, I might add. If you find yourself in New Jersey & want to look like a bombshell, go to Tangles Hair Salon & ask for Samantha to do your hair.) Sam messaged me after my last post & told me to start using collagen. She told me to give it 3 months to really start making a difference. I perused Amazon & found collagen creamer (I drink coffee everyday, so this made perfect sense). Then, I started adding it to my cup(s) of coffee every morning. It’s actually delicious – it adds a little kick of coconut. If you don’t drink coffee, follow that link to other Vital Proteins options that may work better for your daily routine (IF you’re going to great lengths like me!).

My hair overall feels & looks so much healthier. I have zero breakage, it’s smoother, & less frizzy when humidity hits. I measured today to see where I was with actual growth. Last month I was at 19 inches, & today I measured 21. Homegirl looked it up to find out how fast hair is SUPPOSED to grow (I had no idea). The American Academy of Dermatology says that hair grows about 1/2 inch per month on average.

I have blonde on top & dark brown underneath. I measured from where my hair begins at the scalp down to where the longest piece of hair ends.

We got two inches in four weeks, baby! Killlinnnnn ittttt πŸ’πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

I’m intend to keep this routine going for another month & update y’all again. A complete redo of my hair color is on the agenda because my roots are in. They’re annoying the shit out of me, so I might throw in how I do that as well in the next post. So far, going to great lengths is GOING WELL!
